So earlier today my parents were watching Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt. Not even halfway through the movie and they called me to answer one of their questions “how do those space things keep floating up there and not just wander off?” My response to this was that while the earth gravity does pull them, the “space things” 🛰 (such as satellites and space stations) need to have boosts on the regular to keep on orbiting the earth, least they shoot over it or well... simply fall.
Their questions did made me realize, our knowledge of space is keeps growing each day, but at the end of it, that knowledge is quite small. There are so many mysteries and differences in just one planet in our own solar system never mind another galaxy! There could be worlds out there were life is created by methane and other gases instead of our CHNOPS life elements! The possibilities are endless.
